Unsolved at Big O?
Big O is a five-card form of pot-limit Omaha Hi-Lo, usually played eight-or-better. The extra hole card creates more draws and more ways to make the nuts, but the pot is still split between the best high hand and the best qualifying low. That makes scooping both halves the central objective and turns one-way hands into expensive traps.
A Big O coach helps players build starting-hand discipline, read high and low possibilities together, and recognize when they are freerolling an opponent or at risk of being quartered. Because many Big O games are loose and multiway, profitable play depends on selecting hands that can make the nuts in both directions rather than chasing half the pot.

Big O coaching, unsolved questions
- How is Big O different from PLO8?
- Big O normally gives each player five hole cards, while standard PLO8 uses four. Both are split-pot Omaha games, but the extra card creates more combinations, stronger draws, and more frequent nut-versus-nut situations.
- What is the biggest mistake in Big O?
- Playing for only half the pot. Strong Big O strategy prioritizes hands that can scoop both high and low while avoiding situations where a shared low leaves you winning only a quarter.
- Can a regular PLO coach teach Big O?
- Not necessarily. Big O is a split-pot game, so low-hand construction, quartering, and scoop equity are core skills that high-only PLO does not teach. Look for a coach with specific Big O or Omaha Hi-Lo experience.
